[mp3][ http://www.housepig.com/audio/02.%20Dikku.mp3 ]
[mp3][ http://www.housepig.com/audio/03.%20Stunning%20Tilapia.mp3 ] Lhasa Shore Leave is a project of Richmond's Dave
Saulnier. He blends processed sounds and conventional
instruments into a strong droning blend reminiscent of
Vibracathedral Orchestra or Sunroof! Aquarius Records
called his debut ep "a gorgeous little slab of droning
free rock shimmer, twenty minutes of keening, pealing,
warm and warbling, fuzzy foggy dream like bliss." He
is currently preparing a second release for Housepig.

Oblong Box focuses on the dark, atmospheric end of the noise spectrum,
creepy subterranean tones and eerie ambience. Releases have appeared from
Housepig and the Fargone Records "Mugshots" series, with upcoming works
including another Housepig e.p., a compilation track for Public Guilt
records, and a collaborative track with Bastard Noise for their "Our
Earth's Blood 4" release.
::::JUHYOo

Juyho is a collaborative effort between Oblong Box and Surrounded, mixing OB's ethereal approach with the heavy mechanical avalanche of Surrounded, with an
emphasis on improvisation, real-time performance and minimal studio editing. The debut release, "Mesothesis", is coming shortly on Housepig.
Showcase #2 [Public Guilt Records]
::::MAGICICADA (Atlanta, GA)
[website][ http://www.magicicada.com/ ]
[mp3][ http://publicguilt.com/magicicada-cause.mp3 ]
MAGICICADA is the musical life of Atlanta musician/sound
designer/photographer, Christopher White. Since 1999, Mr. White has been
recording and performing non-stop. Each MAGICICADA show is distinct and
unique, ranging from only voice and effects to multi-instrumental
performances w/ collaborators. “Everyone is Everyone” is an organic,
experimental work that blends traditional, as well as folk and eastern,
instruments with found objects, samplers and field recordings to create a
work that varies from delicate soundscapes to harsh electronic
environments. The instrumentation includes (but is not limited to): pump
organ, voice, contact mics on faulty electrical lines, melodica, toys,
iron balls rolling on wooden floors, accordion, cellophane, air cans, tape
decks for the blind, guitar, shruti box, MARTA (Atlanta’s public transit),
synths, oven door (percussion,) cellos, zurna, paper, frogs in the
backyard, and the remains of Hurricane Denis shaking the roof.
::::DARSOMBRA (Baltimore, MD)
[website][ http://www.darsombra.com ]
[mp3][ http://www.meatjack.com/darsombra/darsombra%20-%20thinning%20the%20herd.mp3 ] Darsombra is the solo brainchild of Brian Daniloski (member of Baltimore's
avant-metal outfits Meatjack & Trephine). Leaving Meatjack & Trephine's
sonic personas behind, darsombra create not a metal, but an ether. Though
at times harsh and bleak, the music is ambient over hardcore - well
crafted noise, over well crafted metal. Crushing hums or lullful drones of
the guitar provide the backbone, as Brian layers on ethereal soundscapes,
feedback or field recordings. To experience darsombra is to take an astral
journey into the depths of an unexplored cave, dark and mysterious,
without light as we know it, to float through realms fearful yet
fascinating, to be surrounded by blackness. It is the sort of thing you
seep into, you experience, you absorb, and which absorbs you.
::::DESTRUCTO SWARMBOTS (Queens, NY)
[website][ http://www.destructoswarmbots.com/ ]
[mp3][ http://publicguilt.com/DS-HI.mp3 ]
Destructo Swarmbots creates reactionary and immediate music. Their
music finds itself in opposition to conventional wisdom. Their creative
output is formed in the present with no acknowledgment of the past or
future temporal frameworks. No thought. No preparation. No wrong notes.
Here. Now.
Destructo Swarmbots is Mike Mare and James O'Brien with a rotating
line-up of auxiliary players, so a DS show could be a solo act or it
could as many as five people on stage with any given assortment of
instrumentation. Each show is unique.
Destructo Swarmbots has released a limited edition, s/t tour only CDr,
a full length entitled "“2"” on creepydogeyes, and "The Mountain EP" on
Public Guilt. DS has also completed remixes for ISIS, Trephine, Genghis
Tron, and Branta ÏX and scored the soundtrack for the film 'Satanic
Suicide Slumber Party.' DS recently completed a collaboration with NJ
avant hip-hop giants, Dälek, which will be released as a 12"” pic disc
and CD in early 2007 by Public Guilt. Also in the works are
collaborations with Japan'’s Guilty Connector and Atlanta'’s
Magicicada.

::::Trockeneis (Baltimore, MD)
[website][ http://www.ehserecords.com/releases.html ]
From the den of pre-scientific iniquity in which Baltimore sound actors
thrive on non-planning, the stately emergence of professional harsh
acousticians in five-part harmony, a brash romp through the New
Frictionalism, The New Spectralism, and The New Ritualism. Bowing.
Rubbing. Scraping. Squealing. Squeaking. Screeching. Moaning. Silence.
Anything else. Nothing else. Sound fixations waiting to unfix in the act
of observation/measurement. Go ahead, measure them. Then flip to side B
and watch your numbers float away in a muddy stream of ink. All sounds
were made without electricity. It's portable music. You can easily move
from now to the time when there was no emotion, just its precursors of
permanently lingering urgency. Paul Neidhardt, Catherine Pancake, Dan
Breen, and Andy Hayleck caress their idiophones until they're lost in
backporch lullabies of terror. Audrey Chen's voice also gets lost,
swallowed by its mechanical half-kin and trapped into the shadow world of
forbidden overtones. In the center we find a steaming hunk of dry ice,
hosting the sounds of molecular frenzy at the interface of hot and cold.
Metal. Wood. H2O. Larynx. Danger. Safety. They say it's built into the
limbic system.
::::Synnack (Fairfax, VA)
[website][ http://www.synnack.com ]
[website][ http://myspace.com/synnack ]
Synnack fuses elements of ambient, noise, and IDM ("Intelligent Dance
Music") musical styles with new media performance mediums. Musically,
synnack has been compared to a combination of the Dada/Futurist audio
experimentation and chance methodologies implored by John Cage in the
early 20th century, and the rythmic and melodic components of more
contemporary audio artists such as Coil, and Autechre. Live, synnack
consists of 2 musicians using a combination custom computer environments
to remixed and manipulated audio at fundamental levels while on stage.
Though computer generated, synnack is said to sound strangely organic and
no two synnack performances are the same. Visit synnack.com for more
information and free synnack release downloads.
::::Ben Owen, Scott Allison, & MPLD Trio (Brooklyn, NY / Washington, D.C.)
[website][ http://benowen.org ]
[website][ http://www.m-i-c-r-o.net/mpld/ ]
The focus of mpld's exploration is on the relationships that can be
established between sound, light and space, considered in their
phenomenological and conceptual dimensions. Memory, territory, identity
and the sense of belonging are recurring themes, approached trough the use
of various found materials that are assembled combining analog empiricism
with the abstraction of digital hyperreality.
Ben Owen: Installation, weekly radio program sounds captured the
practice continues to explore these ideas as relating to listening,
response, and performance.

Cory O'Brien (b. 1980) has been experimenting with computers in music
since 1996, and since 2002, has been recording and performing
improvised electro-acoustic music as Myo. His live sets include
manipulated field recordings, homemade instruments, diy software tools,
and analog synthesizers; creating a dense field of katamari blips, atonal
drones, and ultra high pitched UFO landing communications. He has toured
the east coast, performs regularly in Baltimore, DC, and surrounding
areas; and has released music on SocketsCDR and MT6
Records.
::::Ironing (Talahasee, FL)
[website][ http://myspace.com/ironing ]
Ironing is interested in manipulating and recontextualizing
autobiographical sound sources, altering them through lo-fi analog
processes. Creation through destruction, sound as fodder for building
something new. Experiences gathered aurally via microcassettes get pitch
shifted and turned to clangy muck, collaged with beats and noise via
physically altered vinyl, reel to reel and cassette tapes run backwards
and speed manipulated, radio channeled at random, and microphone feedback
and vocalizations. The sonic architecture of dead media. Tempermental
analog machines are coaxed into giving at least a few more hours of
service before inevitably dying mid-show. The things you cannot plan for
are the ones which oftentimes present the greatest opportunities. Chance
is a blessing. Current and forthcoming releases available on Hymns, Sounds
From the Pocket, Stentorian Tapes, Bored Weapons, and Sloth Jinni.

::::Prurient (Brooklyn, NY)
[website][ http://hospitalproductions.com ]
Prurient Biography by Jon Borges of Pedestrian Deposit/Monorail
Trespassing Born in 1997, Prurient is a noise outfit conceived by Dominick
Fernow. In terms of sound, emphasis is placed on processed vocals, organic
electronics, field recordings, and heavy use of feedback. The meaning of
the word ‘prurient’ an obsessive/unhealthy lewd interest (sometimes
sexual), Fernow’s intent – conceptually – is a recontextualization of this
original meaning; applied to such mundane imagery as furniture, interior
architecture, religious iconography – hence an unhealthy interest in
everyday life.
In a live situation, the project is at it’s most confrontational with a
‘bliztkreig attack’ of physical contortions, body response to feedback and
guttural vocalization ranging from 1 – 20 minutes. Not an attack on the
audience, but an attack on himself that the audience is witnessing. The
end result is a rich, minimal, piercing sound, both physically and aurally
– creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the old school ‘industrial noise’
pioneers, something few have been able to reproduce in this digitally
occupied age.
Based in Brooklyn, New York Fernow also operates Hospital Productions, one
of the more remarkable noise labels active today with releases by, Hair
Police, Kevin Drumm, Double Leopards, The New Blockaders, Macronympha, and
Controlled Bleeding to name a few.
Prurient has toured the USA extensively with Hair Police, Air
Conditioning, Emil Beaulieau, Kites and more. This fall will mark the
beginning of a five week USA tour with acclaimed Wolf Eyes.
Not only having performed with such acts as Lightning Bolt, Jazzkammer,
Borbetomagus, Aaron Dilloway, Sightings, Dropdead, Randy Yau,
Nunslaughter, Mindflayer, Skin Crime, Anenzaphalia, Deutch Nepal, Der
Blutharsch, Inertia, Terrorfakt, White Mice, Usaisamonster, Sudden Infant,
Noxagt, Necronomitron, Taint, Monotract, Pita, Burning Star Core, Double
Leopards, Mouthus, Majik Markers, and more, but a recent series of live
and studio collaborations with Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore
continues.
With previous releases on Load Records, Armageddon Label, RRR, Bulb!,
Groundfault Recordings, American Tapes, This fall will mark the release of
‘Black Vase’ CD/2xLP – Fernow’s second offering on Load. Future plans
include material for Important Records, Hanson, and Troubleman Unlimited.”

::::Rebecca C. Adams
Rebecca C. Adams – Sculptor and electroacoustic composer whose most recent
body of work, Instinct (2005) explores the sonic characteristics (pitch,
timbre, amplitude) of scale, texture, form, color, and material. The
installation is a trio of sonic sculptures that integrates organic and
ephemeral media with found objects and readymades to establish a corporeal
presence within memory, history, or narrative. The featured piece Feedback
(2005) investigates the aesthetical distinction between living, lifelike,
dead, and synthetic. Instinct was originally exhibited at the Oresman
Gallery at Smith College under the advisorship of Lynne Yamamoto.
Electroacoustic and computer music also drive her work in video.
Performances for video engage in a dialogue between ritual, repetition,
and sonic environment. She studied video with Lucretia Knapp and
electroacoustic music with Daniel Warner. Rebecca currently lives and
works in Northern Virginia as an artist and art educator.

The members of Cristal came together in a Richmond, Virginia kitchen over
a batch of sangria in 2001. The band members, Jimmy Anthony, Bobby Donne
(who is also a member of Labradford), and Greg Darden use a variety of
electronic devices, sources, and recording locations to improvise and/or
compose. The result can be beautiful, relaxing, chaotic or challenging,
often all at once. Volume is critical.
“The threesome create tracks that mix drone-landscaping with surgical
penis methods in a way that is sure to make you salute. By turns lilting,
dark and noisesome, this music feels like a sharp fingernail circling your
navel slowly inside a tightly shuttered room. Just be careful you don’t
have anything in the way when they decide to slam the door shut. It might
hurt.” – Byron Coley, the Wire

mystics, cassettes, and spirits moving, colliding, dispersing and
